Much better than what comes with the iPhone
Like a lot of the apps that come with the iPhone/iPad, the stock camera/movie app is easy to use and shows the basic capabilities of the iDevice. But after some time goes by, I usually long for the features that would normally be present in an application.
MoviePro was the movie app that brought those features to the process of making movies. What makes the app even more likeable is that those features are readily available and useable. On many iDevice apps, one must click on places that have no buttons so it turns into a guessing game; MoviePro makes it easy to access features because most all features are readily accessible from the main screen with dedicated buttons.
The App just works and works well. My setup is a little more complicated because it uses stereo audio inputs through the digital port (30-pin or Lightning). I didnt have the special cable I needed for the Lightning connector, so I used an older iPhone 4s with the 30-pin. MoviePro automatically switched to using the digital port and stated it on the display for several seconds before it faded away withrequireing me to dismiss the message (a nice tough).
Another sorely needed feature missing from the standard app was a way to monitor the audio levels to ensure it is set to an appropriate level. Line-Level inputs can overdrive audio ports and cause distortion. MoviePro enables one to display an audio "LED" light bar that is color-coded to show signal strength. It is unobtrusive and shows what is needed to make adjustments.
The movie viewer is also more tightly-coupled with the movie recorder than the standard iDevice app. That enables a lot less button pushing and time saved. MoviePro also has a simple movie editing feature that I used to crop the first part of a movie.
Finally, I had a cheap third-party remote shutter control (Bluetooth). I was surprised that, by setting one option on the setup page (and of course pairing it with the bluetooth driver), the device worked appropriately. The labeling on this menu item wasnt the most intuitive, but it worked.
Because my setup is somewhat non-standard, I had several questions that needed answering. I was pleasantly surprised by the quick response that I received from the developer. The quick response was greatly appreciated.
I certainly havent tried all of the movie apps out there, but I have no need to try any others at this time.
